Cyclamen - care at home. Varieties for breeding in an apartment. Requirements for watering, lighting, fertilizing, temperature

It’s easy to fall in love with cyclamen (dryavka), all you need to do is see it once. The flower is a favorite among gardeners. Not surprisingly, it has a second name, Flower of the Sun. It grows great at home.

The unusual inflorescences resemble beautiful butterflies, which is why it is so popular. In order for the charming magic to delight you at home, you need to know the conditions for growing cyclamen and the rules for caring for it.

Two types of cyclamen grow on the windows of houses and apartments: Persian and European. The first blooms when other plants are resting, that is, in winter.

Home care

How to care for cyclamen at home? There is an opinion that cyclamen is incredibly capricious. This is not true, the main thing is to create comfortable conditions.

Location

Like other flowers, alpine violet loves light. It is important to know that direct sunlight is harmful to it. It feels best on windows located on the western and eastern sides.

If you decide to keep it on a south window, protection from UV rays is necessary.

Diseases and pests

The causative agents of cyclamen disease are fungi and bacteria. The cause of the disease is high humidity, low temperatures, and overwatering. The most common ailments:

  • Gray rot is a plaque in the form of mold on the leaves of a flower.
  • Wet rot - lethargy, drooping leaves, rotten smell of soil.
  • Furiosis - the leaves turn yellow gradually from the top of the plant.

Common pests:

  • Scale insects are dark spots on the leaves of the plant.
  • Thrips - brown spots, deformation of the entire flower.
  • Aphids – leaf dying, rotting.

Sick alpine violets are isolated from the rest immediately.

Humidity

In order for the wood to be pleasing to the eye, it is important to keep it in humid conditions. Spray the leaves during growth. And even when it begins to bloom, the procedure cannot be stopped. Otherwise it will start to rot.

To increase humidity, you can put moss or expanded clay in the tray. But at the same time, the bottom of the pots should not come into contact with water. Rainwater or settled water is best suited. Only under such conditions do cyclamen leaves not turn yellow.

Transfer

Care and replanting of the cyclomenia flower is carried out regularly, since the tuber and roots draw all the nutrients from the soil. During growth, the bulb enlarges and the small pot becomes cramped.

How to transplant cyclamen into another pot:

  • Choose the right time. Transplantation is carried out after the start of intensive growth, but before the formation of buds. A flowering plant cannot be replanted, even if the flower grows in a light transport substrate.
  • Inspect the tuber and select a pot according to size - it should be 5-6 cm larger than the bulb. There is no need to buy more, since the plant puts all its energy into growing the root system and forgets to bloom.
  • Place a layer of expanded clay or pebbles on the bottom. a 2 cm layer of prepared soil mixture on it
  • Remove the flower from the previous pot and inspect the roots. If any of them are rotten or dry, they are removed.
  • Clean as much of the old soil as possible from the root.
  • Place the cyclamen in a new container. The upper part of the tuber must protrude from the soil, otherwise the growing point may rot.
  • Sprinkle the sides with soil and press down to release excess air.

To stimulate cyclamen to take root, it is not watered for the first 3 to 4 days and the plant tries to find water on its own. The leaves may droop a little, but then gain strength again.

Loose soil always settles, so add enough of it to the pot so that the soil is 2–3 cm below the edges of the pot.

Watering

Water moderately or deeply, depending on conditions. Be sure to ensure that the water does not stagnate under any circumstances. At the same time, do not allow the soil to dry out.

It is important that water does not get into the center of the flower. Such watering will cause the tuber to rot. After a couple of hours, be sure to drain the water collected in the pan.

Once flowering ends, watering is reduced. When the “leaf fall” passes, the tuber becomes bare, and water is completely removed from the “diet”.

Top dressing

When active leaf growth begins, feed the plant every 2 weeks. A mineral complex is best suited during this period.

Organic is also good. You need to be as careful as possible with nitrogen (due to an excess, rot appears on the tubers).

Quiet time

After flowering, the plant goes into a dormant period. The pot must be placed in a ventilated room, because this period begins in the warm season.

It feels good in the garden, on the balcony, but only where there is no sun. Or simply after the tuber is exposed and the leaves fall off, put the pot on its side and wait for awakening.

Growing a young plant

Growing cyclamen does not take much effort and time. The plant is quite unpretentious. Cyclamen loves diffused, not bright light. In summer, you need to maintain a temperature of 20-25°C, in winter about 10-14°C. Water the plants at the roots, during flowering - abundantly, after flowering I gradually reduce watering until slightly moist.

Cyclamen is sprayed with warm water, as it loves humidity. From the appearance of leaves until the formation of buds, cyclamen must be fed once a month with complex fertilizer for flowering plants.

We grow at home

It is possible to grow cyclamen from seeds at home and not as difficult as it might seem. Troublesome - yes, but any plant requires attention. Be patient, it will take a year from the moment the seed is planted in the ground to the first flower.

To grow cyclamen from seeds you need to know some nuances:

  • the first shoots appear in a month;
  • You can get a luxurious flower garden thanks to a wide selection of seeds;
  • It is best to plant seeds in early spring or late summer, although you can plant them all year round;
  • Keep the pots in a dark room until germination.

As you can see, growing the plant is not difficult. A little patience and you will admire flower butterflies when there are no real ones yet.

Division into groups

  • Miniature. Plants belonging to the first group are decorated with large flowers, reaching more than 4 centimeters in size. Sometimes even the flowers of this group have fragrant smells. For comfortable plant growth, a pot diameter of approximately 6-10 cm is required.
  • Midi. Cyclamens of this group have medium-sized flowers and prefer pots with a diameter of 10-13 cm.
  • Maxi. They are also called large-flowered or standard. A more suitable pot volume for them is 13-20 cm.
