Furnace models
There are modular barbecues on sale that are perfect for garden kitchens. You can order the device from a specialized organization, and the company’s employees will install the fryer.
Most of the devices are intended for enclosed spaces. Beautiful mini-barbecues in the apartment will look appropriate at any time of the year. Such gas-powered devices can be installed on a spacious terrace. It is useful to make a patio with a barbecue. You should pay attention to the general style of the buildings located on the site.
Unusual Italian barbecues are very popular; there are roasters of different sizes on sale. A large round stove is suitable for a family with several children and people who like to receive guests. Those who like privacy are better off buying a portable grill. A charcoal barbecue can be quite expensive, the price depends on the manufacturer and the weight of the unit. Currently, the use of gas barbecue equipment is common.
Owners of country houses often buy barbecue models with tandoor. This makes it possible to cook not only fish, meat and vegetables, but also bread. It is useful to complement the oven by installing a grill next to it.
Each type of food requires special equipment. For example, a mesh is used for frying meat, and it’s a good idea to buy skewers. Vegetables turn out very tasty if they are grilled, and to prepare pilaf the cook will need a cauldron. Since there are so many add-ons, choosing a barbecue oven is quite difficult.
It is believed that the method of cooking over a fire was borrowed from nomadic tribes. Over time, the word “barbecue” acquired the meaning of “oven for frying meat.”
There are a lot of recipes for cooking on the grill, so people often confuse barbecue, grill and barbecue. They don't know which option to choose. A regular barbecue is a box for coals. Usually in Moscow it is made of brick or metal. The meat is threaded onto a skewer, which is placed on top of the coals, or it is placed on a grill.
The barbecue and grill can be made from a pipe. An important point is that the height of the walls cannot be adjusted. The upper edge of the grill is a stand for grates or skewers. Products cooked on coals are blown with air from above. In the box itself, holes must be made to allow air access to the coals. Above the level of the skewers or the grate installed on the grill, this heat dissipates.
Craftsmen can easily make a barbecue out of a pipe. This is not the only possible option. Do-it-yourself picnic structures made from a barrel are very popular.
Cooking food on a grill requires skill because the heat comes from below. During the process of frying kebabs, it is important to rotate the food so as not to dry it out.
Universal wood-fired barbecues occupy an intermediate position between a barbecue and a grill. The difference is that the grill is completely open to the air. The summer barbecue house is a structure that has sides and 1 open side. Having a small side is very important: it prevents the heat from spreading to the sides. During the combustion of fuel, this side heats up and takes full part in the cooking process, as a result, a thermal cushion is created around the fryer. In a barbecue, food is baked from the bottom and edges, while in a barbecue, food is heated from above. In such conditions, meat cooks much faster, and it is almost impossible to overcook the product.
It is worth noting that a brick barbecue allows for the possibility of raising the grate above the hot coals. This allows you to use the oven to its greatest advantage. The height can be adjusted manually. If we talk about artificial draft, it is not created in a barbecue, because the lower the speed of hot air movement, the better for cooking.
Hearth-type stoves require the organization of a chimney, but the pipe is made low. Typically, the distance from the fryer to the top edge of the pipe does not exceed 1.5 m.
The grill differs from other types of ovens in that the design has a lid. The meat is placed on a grill or on skewers. It is placed in the oven and then covered with a lid. All 3 cooking methods are similar to each other; the ovens can be easily transformed from one to another. For example, if you make walls for a barbecue, it will immediately acquire the structural features of a barbecue. By closing such an oven with a lid, you can cook fish and meat using grill technology.
Barbecue for a summer residence: types and features of construction
You can choose from several options :
- portable grill - easy to disassemble and assemble, fits compactly into a backpack or car trunk. When choosing a model, you have to look for a compromise between the weight (i.e., wall thickness) of the grill and its reliability and durability. Walls that are too thin can easily deform; due to temperature changes, they begin to change their original shape, which over time significantly complicates the assembly and disassembly process. Cracks form in the structure, through which heat escapes and small coals can fall out - in forest conditions and dry weather this can cause a fire;
- mobile barbecue - most often it is made of metal sheets of medium thickness, and to simplify movement it is structurally created in the form of a cart on wheels. In addition to the barbecue itself, it can additionally be equipped with a cutting table and have a compartment for storing firewood and skewers. Forged mobile barbecues for the dacha, exquisite, with openwork patterns, can become a real decoration of the site. To protect them from dirt and corrosion, they are placed in a utility room for the winter;
- stationary barbecue - refers to the small architectural forms of a summer cottage. This is a fairly massive structure that requires a reliable foundation. For its construction, you can use stone, brick, metal in different proportions and combinations. A stationary barbecue allows you to regulate the air flow, which means the intensity of coal combustion; in mobile versions you have to use a spray bottle with water.
A barbecue for a brick dacha is a fairly expensive solid structure. Its undoubted advantage is its high heat capacity; after heating, you can cook in such a grill for a very long time.
The construction of a barbecue begins with choosing a location. It is optimal if it is removed from wooden buildings, trees and other flammable objects. It is also worth considering the direction of the prevailing winds so that smoke does not enter the house or create inconvenience for neighbors.
Red stove brick is suitable for construction - it is able to withstand temperature changes (heating, cooling), but does not deform, does not change linear dimensions and does not crack.
Before starting work, it is worth preparing a drawing - this will help determine the required amount of building materials, simplify and speed up the work. To make cooking convenient in the future, it is important to correctly determine the height of the grill - to do this, you just need to stand and bend your elbows, simulating that you are rotating skewers - the height from the ground to your hands will be the desired value. The most functional length of the barbecue is about 1 m, this is enough to simultaneously place 10 kebabs. Drawings of barbecues are shown in Figures 1, 2, 3.

Since the structure is quite massive, construction begins with laying the foundation: a pit is dug, a sand cushion is prepared, formwork is installed, reinforcement is laid and concrete is poured. After the solution has completely hardened, waterproofing is laid (roofing felt, roofing felt or dense film).
The day before you start laying the brick, you need to water it well - then it will not draw moisture from the mortar, and the masonry will be stronger.
To lay the base of the barbecue, use a clay-sand mixture, which can withstand temperatures well and will prevent the barbecue from falling apart. Bricks are laid starting from the corner and moving towards the middle, with each new row moving to the side by half a brick. Every three rows, the finished masonry is checked with a level and a reinforcing mesh is laid. The roasting pan can be made of metal, they can also use a cast reinforced concrete base, or simply lay it out of brick. In this case, it is necessary to leave small gaps (cracks) in the masonry - thanks to them, air will penetrate into the firebox, and combustion will be better.
If you plan to use a brick grill also as a barbecue, you should provide in advance a place to install the grate by making small protrusions for this. The lattice itself will be placed on reinforcement bars embedded in the walls of the building. To be able to change the installation height of the grille, several protrusions are made.
The simplest barbecues usually do not have a pipe. But the presence of a chimney will provide good draft and removal of smoke, which will not interfere with cooking. For the chimney, wind walls are erected and a smoke collector is laid out. The pipe is mounted on support columns, and with each row it is gradually narrowed. To protect the chimney from precipitation, a canopy is installed on it, which additionally serves as a spark arrester. External walls can be decorated with tiles (tiles, decorative stone) or simply plastered.
Barbecue for a summer cottage
You can find several barbecue options on sale. In the process of choosing a suitable model, you should pay attention to the design features. If barbecue is prepared at your summer cottage several times during the summer, it is enough to buy a barbecue that can be easily dismantled and moved from place to place.
You need to pay attention in advance to the design of the barbecue area and calculate how many guests can gather at the table. The choice of furnace model depends on their number. You can find a place to install a barbecue even if the built-in covered kitchen is made of timber and has a small area. To install the stove, 1.5 m² is enough.
The universal barbecue is considered a popular type of barbecue. In their modern form, such stoves came to us from Central America. There they like to cover the oven with a lid. Roasting meat has a number of features, for example, it is cut across the grain. The meat is not marinated; it is lubricated during frying, preferring homemade marinade. The coals give medium heat.
There are a lot of stove designs; they can be stationary, made from a barrel with your own hands, or mobile. The cost of purchased products can vary significantly; there are budget models and expensive appliances for cottages. You need to choose a built-in barbecue not only based on your budget, but also taking into account the size of the yard near your house.
The choice of stove depends on the type of fuel. It could be gas or coal. There are electric ovens on sale that have an original shape.
Portable and electric models
If you look at the design, the barbecue is based on a roaster. The simplest ovens have a frying surface, while more advanced models are equipped with ovens and frying pans. In addition, they have many shelves on which it is convenient to display spices and cutlery.
You can find disposable barbecues on sale. It is a pallet that was made of very thin tin. Such installations are small in size. The meat is placed on the grill, placing it over the smoldering coals. The barbecue must be installed on a level area. A special feature of the stove is that it is used only once. The thing is that the pan quickly burns out.
Buyers will love the portable option. Barbecue is a very common product chosen by tourists. The design is easy to carry and fold, so you can take it with you on vacation. The stove is moved from place to place, packed in a modern case. In appearance, such an oven is a brazier, which is equipped with a grate.
There is another option - this is a closed barbecue with a dome-shaped lid, especially popular in the USA. If the oven is completely closed, it becomes an analogue of an oven. In an outdoor barbecue you can cook large pieces of meat or whole poultry.
A barbecue on wheels is ideal for catering organizations that are responsible for hosting outdoor events. The design is equipped with a convenient tabletop, which is securely fixed in the desired position. Ready-made outdoor barbecues can be installed very quickly; it is important to choose a flat area. The kitchen is also suitable for their installation.
Exclusive barbecues, grills and other household appliances used for cooking will be a good gift. They can be equipped in the kitchen. Some buyers expect an unusual taste from a barbecue, while for others it is especially important that the stove they buy as a gift looks stylish. Manufacturers, knowing the preferences of customers, offer a wide range of models. Today you can easily find decorative elements that can decorate a stove.
Gas barbecue is ideal for home and restaurants. It combines the functions of an oven and a barbecue. At home, you can use an electric barbecue. Such stoves are small in size and can be placed on a regular kitchen table. A portable grill will be an excellent addition to the device.
A stationary barbecue can be made of stone, but most often it is built of brick. It’s worth making a table around for guests; you can gather here on warm summer evenings and even in winter. Typically, such a barbecue is made under a canopy or located inside a gazebo. It is useful for them to complement a Finnish sauna or an ordinary Russian bath, then you will get a full-fledged relaxation area.
What types of barbecues are there?
The regular grill is almost a thing of the past; now various models are appearing that make the frying process more comfortable. The following list presents modifications of barbecues depending on quality, reusability, and movement.
- Stationary . Quite a large structure, this is an outdoor barbecue, it is placed on a flat surface and cannot be moved, it is constructed from brick, metal, stone or a combination of them. If desired and possible, a full-fledged gazebo can be built so that meat can be grilled all year round.
- Portable . It is small in size, collapsible, easy to transport with you anywhere, but the disadvantage is its single-tasking and short service life. It is worth paying attention to the thickness of the material: if it is too small, then there is a risk of rapid wear; on the other hand, the greater the thickness, the more the entire structure weighs.
- Mobile . It does not need to be disassembled, but it is quite light, as it is made of thin sheet metal. For ease of movement it can be with wheels. Thus, after frying, you can put the grill in a secluded place, protecting it from rapid wear and tear.
- Electric grill . It runs on electricity, the skewers rotate automatically, and the meat is heated by electric coils.
Parameters of a good device
The thickness of the walls of the grill is important; the rule is simple: the thicker, the longer the service life. The optimal wall thickness can be considered 2 mm; stiffening ribs will add additional strength. An even bigger advantage will be a special stand for the cauldron; it is designed to cook not only meat, but also other dishes. For ease of use, you need to purchase a grill with a top container that can be removed, so it’s easier to clean.
Braziers and barbecues are an integral part of picnics and outings for lovers of meat over a fire. If you approach the decision about choosing a model thoughtfully, then it will not only last for a long time, but will also allow you to provide all the conditions for a civilized holiday as comfortably as possible.
What to pay attention to
For a picnic to be a success, you need to choose the right place to place the stove. This will increase the efficiency of its use. You need to install the barbecue on a level area - this is the safest option. Access to the fryer must be free. You can even make a Thai barbecue at your dacha. Forged utensils will be a great addition.
If the kitchen in your house is spacious, you can put an electric barbecue in this room. The oven must be supervised at all times. You should not install it outdoors under a tree. You can make a canopy and glaze the walls. In this case, you can use the oven all year round. Even in the fall, you can gather with a cheerful group on such a veranda made of timber.
If your budget is limited, you can make a grill from an iron stove by sawing it into 2 parts. It is necessary to weld the legs to one of the elements, then the installation will stand firmly on the ground. You can build a stove out of a barrel with your own hands by proceeding in a similar way. You need to place a grate on one of the halves; food will be baked on it.
It is useful to equip a recreation area with a tandoor. The process of cooking food in it is similar to simmering in a Russian oven.
In a winter barbecue, meat will be cooked even in frosty weather. It is necessary to pay attention to the location of the grill relative to wooden structures made of timber. There should be a large distance between them - this is a fire safety requirement, because a barn or other wooden surface can catch fire or become smoky.
