I want to build a playground in my yard myself - what is needed for this and how much it might cost

Types of car sites

Venues are open and closed.

Open areas are easy to make. They are equipped if the suburban area is visited relatively rarely.

Closed - equipped for permanent residence in a private house.

Their advantage is that they allow you to protect the car from both precipitation and excessive overheating by the sun, and ensure comfortable boarding and disembarking in the rain, especially if the site is adjacent to the house.

Depending on the coverage of the site, there are:

  • with lawn grass;
  • from crushed stone;
  • paving slabs;
  • concrete pouring area.

What is a summer café area?

Today, the legislation of Ukraine does not contain the concept of “summer playground” and “summer terrace”.

The only opportunity for catering establishments to use “letniki” is provided for by DSTU 4281, which allows the organization of an open area for catering for cafes, bars, restaurants, while prohibiting canteens and cafeterias. There are two types of summer playgrounds:

  1. Autonomous catering establishments located on a separate territory.
  2. Summer terraces, temporary non-permanent structures adjacent to existing catering establishments.

We'll talk about the latter. Often, “summer houses” are seasonal and temporary in nature - these are structures in the form of gazebos, pavilions and canopies, therefore they are legally classified as small architectural forms (SAF).

Lawn area

An easy-to-make platform. The construction of the site begins with the excavation of soil and the subsequent creation of a foundation. Then a lawn grid is laid, into the cells of which soil mixed with lawn grass seeds is poured.

It should be taken into account that such a site requires regular grass mowing and watering during dry periods. Trampling of grass in ruts is possible.

Permits for summer playground

At first glance, there are no special permits for summer playgrounds in the current legislation. But don’t rush to install a “summer area” - there are many indirect, indirect standards that apply to summer areas.

Very often, regions locally establish their own rules for landscaping, which include requirements for the installation of summer terraces.

For example, to install letnik” in Kiev you need:

  • obtain a certificate of the functional purpose of the seasonal site;
  • sign a share participation agreement (signed from May 1 to October 31);
  • pay a share contribution (the amount depends on the location of the site);
  • receive an information card, which you will place at the entrance to your establishment;
  • register with the KP “Kievblastrophy”.

For more detailed information, see the procedure for placing catering sites in the city of Kyiv.

Crushed stone platform

To make it, you need to remove the soil. Pour 10 cm of sand into the bottom, compact it and level it. Next, fill in layers and compact with equal layers of crushed stone 40-70, then crushed stone 20-40. On top you can add a small layer of crushed stone 5-20.

The total layer of crushed stone should be 10-20 cm, depending on humidity and soil type. The required thickness of crushed stone can be reduced by laying geotextile between it and the sand, which evenly distributes the load and prevents its spreading.

However, in such areas, after a year or two, grass begins to grow and ruts may appear.

Operating mode of "summer workers"

You determine the operating hours of the summer playground yourself; as a rule, they coincide with the operating hours of your establishment. At the same time, the summer playground can work longer than the main establishment - it is important that the opening hours meet the requirements of local authorities.

If you rent a premises and want to install a summer terrace, first obtain written permission from the owner, written consent to the site if the land is owned by a third party. For example, it may be municipal or state property if utility lines pass nearby.

Also, do not forget about access for visitors with disabilities. It is necessary to install ramps, call buttons, etc.

According to the Law, when putting a summer terrace into operation, you must re-submit a declaration of compliance of the material and technical base with fire safety requirements . In it, indicate along with information about the establishment, also all data about the site. A separate declaration for the “letnik” is not submitted.

Paving slab area

It is usually settled on waterlogged or clayey soil. Preparing the base for the tiles is carried out in the same way as for a crushed stone platform.

4-7 cm of sand or grit is poured on top of the crushed stone, compacted and leveled. Then the paving slabs are laid. It should rise 0.5-1 cm above the installed curbs.

We recommend reading:

To prevent sand or grit from penetrating into the crushed stone, it is recommended to place geotextiles between them.

After laying the tiles, it is necessary to fill the seams with grout and water the area for several days with water.

The design of the area for the car can be seen in the photo.

Arranging, decorating and decorating a playground with your own hands

Don’t be afraid of unique solutions - our lives are already standardized within strict everyday frameworks. The world of childhood is worthy of creativity, at least in small gaming details. Alas, we often decorate the playground with our own hands, without leaving the captivity of our own stereotypes. But this activity is limited only by the framework of our imagination and is infinitely variable.

A miniature gnome house inside a tree stump - with paths, windows and entrance gates. Figures of animals and birds made from bright plastic bottles and arranged in natural poses. Car models made from old tires and wooden floors. Appliqués on trees and a man-made channel in the stone banks, along which it is so cool to launch boats in a race. Hammocks made of bright fabrics and huts made of hedges - the imagination would be alive, and the rest would follow.

Do you want to know how to decorate a playground with your own hands and feel the result of your efforts for many years? Do this work with your children. And not according to the principle “I’m in charge here!”, but carefully taking into account children’s desires, hopes and dreams.

Concrete platform

The most durable and durable parking. It is recommended to do this for intensive use. It does not require special care and remains smooth throughout its entire service life.

Let's take a closer look at the step-by-step instructions on how to make a platform for a car out of concrete.

Decide on the size and mark the location of the future site.

Even if the car is small, it is better to make it larger in the future. For one car it is recommended – 3x7 m.

We recommend reading:

  • Options for arranging the yard of a private house - the best design ideas, preparation options and tips for creating a beautiful backyard area (90 photos)
  • Plot of 6 acres - examples of design, effective development and examples of landscape design (135 photos)

The markings should be increased in each direction by 0.5 m under the base. If the site is adjacent to the house, then it is necessary to make an indentation from the foundation.

Remove the soil up to 30 cm, lay the necessary communications (water supply, electrical cable, drainage) and make a concrete base.

In this case, it is necessary to provide for the slope of the site, taking into account the topography of the site. The base is made in the same way as for a crushed stone platform. However, the thickness of the crushed stone will be sufficient to make 10 cm.

Make formwork or install curb stones in concrete locks.

The formwork should be installed taking into account the slope of the site. If necessary, drainage trays can be made on the low level side to drain water.

Lay reinforcement, install beacons and fill the area for the car

For the site, reinforcement with a diameter of 10-14 mm will be sufficient. In this case, the intersecting rods are connected to each other with wire. The connected reinforcement grid is installed on supports so that it is covered with concrete on all sides.

Beacons are placed in 1 m increments on cement mortar. After hardening, pour concrete up to 12 cm thick.

To concrete the site, a solution consisting of 3 parts sand, 1 part cement, 2 parts small crushed stone is mixed. It is not advisable to use medium and large crushed stone, as it will be difficult to level the surface.

Knowing these features, it is not difficult to make a platform for a car in a country house or on the site of a private house, which will delight you and will last for many years.

The most unusual playgrounds

Swings, slides, climbing frames - the essence of the playground has not changed over the decades. But if in our childhood these were, as a rule, boring metal structures, today the best designers in the world are taking on playground projects for children, understanding how important it is for a child not only to move in a varied and safe way, but also to do it in a creative, bright, aesthetic space. Therefore, today we will look at the most unusual playgrounds located in different parts of the world, we will be amazed at the imagination of the architects - and, perhaps, we will envy a little those who are now standing at the very top of the amazing slide and in a second will rush down, experiencing at this moment the most delightful happiness ...

New York Giants

This is something between an art object and a game structure. Tom Otterness is known for his sculptures all over the world, but it was with children in mind that the artist created real giants, which are used as huge slides. At the same time, they do not have sharp corners, which is very important for the safety of children.

But Brooklyn artist Tom Otterness decided that it would be advisable to combine a play space with an art object and came up with 27 bizarre bronze figures 24.5 feet high and 30 feet long. The most famous strange giant lives in Manhattan. His nine-meter legs are used as slides. This unusual playground is safe for children - it does not have a single sharp corner.

Mirror House

How many joyful memories each of us has associated with visiting the room of distorting mirrors that were in every holiday park! With this in mind, MLRP created the Felled Mirror House in Copenhagen's largest park, a house whose walls are decorated with curved mirrors.

They are made of polished stainless steel and perfectly reflect the park and the nearby children's playground - naturally, in a distorted form, which is the subject of admiration for the local children. By the way, at night the shutters are closed and the house turns into a very ordinary building.

"Knitted" platform

The tandem of Brazilian architect Marcia Maria Benevento and artist Agata Olek created a unique children's playground with a knitted crocodile in Sao Paulo.

The work was timed to coincide with the art festival SESC Arts Show 2012, when the crocodile that already existed on the site, made according to Benevento’s design, received new “clothes” made of acrylic yarn and fabric tape.

Car park in Lima

Basurama architects created the park using old railway tracks in the city center.

Recycled materials were used during construction - car parts, tires, etc. There is a zip line, rope obstacles, climbing walls and much more.

"Broken" houses in Copenhagen

This is the creation of the Monstrum studio, a recognized authority in creating the most incredible and stylish children's playgrounds (their works are also in Russia, for example, in Moscow's Gorky Park).

The architects built the Brumlebyen site with charming houses in their home country, decorating one of the sites in Copenhagen with them. The houses seem to have been copied from the buildings located near the playground, but they are distinguished by their positivity, dynamics and, of course, the presence of walls, slides, and climbing structures.

Towers of the Danish capital

Another work by Monstrum for Copenhagen, reminiscent of the sights of the Danish capital - the town hall, the Church of the Savior, the Exchange Tower, etc.

There is even a small planetarium-type platform installed in the Round Tower.

"Bird" area

This site is located in Vail, Colorado, in the Sun Bird Park and was created by Tres Birds Workshop.

The base of the site is formed by three cocoons resembling nests. They are made of wood and coated with special impregnation. The nests are connected by bridges and rope crossings; In addition, there is a climbing wall on the site. It is important that the site has recreational facilities for children with disabilities.

Rope tower

This playground was created by the architectural bureau Snohetta architecture in the Austrian Tyrol. It is located on the square of the Swarovski Museum in Wattens, and its façade consists of many glass faces.

The complex includes a high rope tower, which you can climb on a net (it consists of four levels, so it is interesting for children of different ages), slides, a climbing wall, a ball pit, and a garden labyrinth.

Wooden royal owls

Another Monstrum creation for our Scandinavian neighbors: huge wooden buildings have appeared in Stockholm’s Kristineberg Slottspark, among which are the “king and queen” owls.

The structures, more than five meters high, are equipped with ladders, slides, and chimes, which are controlled using buttons—even children with disabilities can press them.

In addition to owls, beetles, ants, and mushrooms were located in the playing space. The anthill labyrinth is also of great interest to children.

Giant on the playground

In Valencia, Spain, in a dry riverbed, on one of the children's playgrounds, the hero of Jonathan Swift's book found refuge - as architect Rafael Rivera, artist Manolo Martin and designer Josep Vincent "Sento" Llobel Bisbal saw him.

The length of the figure is 70 meters, and there are slides in the folds of his camisole, and climbing structures are located on the arms and legs.

Acorns on the Hilltop

At the National Nature Reserve in Canberra, TCL (Taylor Cullity Lethlean) created a playground whose main structures resemble huge acorns. They are placed on metal legs and connected by tunnels. According to the authors of the project, such a platform will help attract children's attention to nature conservation.

Playground on the water

For the seaside in Bol (Croatia), the German company Wibit Sports GmbH and Robert Cyriak built a playground on the water: an obstacle course, slides, and swings are surrounded by azure water. In total, there are more than fifty similar play spaces on the coast of Croatia, which are very popular among children of different ages.

Knitted nests

The unique Woods of Net site in Hakone, Japan, realized by Tezuka Architects, is a giant knitted fabric. It was created by artist Toshiko Horiuchi Macadam (and by hand!). The wooden shell of the pavilion is made without metal parts.

Baltic whale

For the port of Gothenburg (Sweden), the Danes from Monstrum proposed a playground to which a giant whale 15 meters long “swimmed”.

Climb into its belly and then slide down the back of a huge animal - what could be more interesting!

Children's railway station

Stations and trains simply fascinate children. Knowing this, Monstrum proposed creating a miniature station with a train that could move and a dispatcher's house as a play space for the Danish Railway Museum in Odense.

Playground for the whole family

Blaxland Riverside Park is a site created in Sydney by a team from the architectural studio JMD Design.

Slides that echo the natural hills, a variety of swings, lifts, tunnels and labyrinths, as well as a water playground - both children and their parents can have fun here.

Swing park

A very spectacular and unusual site located in Boston Contemporary Sculpture Park. Howeler + Yoon Architecture designed it in such a way that the 20 swings on the playground glow when you swing on them, changing colors from white to purple. The playground has become a favorite place for both children and adults.

New life for airplanes

In St. Louis, America, sculptor Bob Cassilly began creating an airplane museum using decommissioned aircraft.

After his death, his colleagues continued the work, and today the museum space has a gym, many slides and a Ferris wheel.

Underground area

In the UK, Zip World used a former North Wales mine to create a playground.

There are three huge trampolines, complemented by stunning lighting. The site also has tall slides, crossings and other attractions.
